Silence Silence
Bang! Then comes silence
I sit empty without tools
Families now live here
Tough
Bounce Bounce inside walls
Basketballs bounce high each fall
Built tough like a rock
Not built for dainty living
Adept for active teen lads
Walls
Once built for big tools
Now used for housing family
Stories I could tell
With a past I've bid farewell
My walls are arms of comfort

History
Ting! The hammer smashes steel against the anvil.
Changing its shape into a skinny sharp figure with a point and a handle
I use hot iron to manipulate steels shape, I am an artist and steel is my medium
Millions of sparks fly with every swing of my hammer
Embers fly through the air at warp speed.
The blacksmith shop is my home
Each brick put together like a puzzle.
The bricks are an orange sunset in the dark dirty bowels of my shop
My sanctuary is tucked away in a small west Michigan town bustling with new life
Douglas is a colony of ants everybody has a job to do
My job is the most important job in town, I fix carriages so people can move quickly
I work long into the night in my two story brick dwelling
When my hands can no longer take the hard labor, sleepily I march up the stairs to my bed.
The next morning i wake up early like the rooster.
Alert and ready to start another day in my favorite place, surrounded by all I love.
The Blacksmith Loves His Anvil
Clap! Ting! Banging against the hot steel
The farmer and the blacksmith create a deal
Hitting the anvil at high speed and power
Creating horseshoes every hour
The hammer was singing a song
All the blacksmith’s life long
A day in the blacksmith’s shop is hot
Horses like to trot
The H.M. Bekken-Horse Shoeing and General Repair sign calls to the farmer
The steel is like body armor
Herman Bekken was an artist
Loving to fix things like a horse’s harness
Sharpening plows and sickles
Customers pay nickels
The anvil is the blacksmith’s drum
Keeping time with a loud hum
The sparks are feathers that hit him it just tickles
When he works he likes to whistle
Summer season keeps him busy
After work he is gritty
Bang! Then comes silence
I sit empty without tools
